Friendly Fill-ins ~ Week 97

I am ready for the Fill-ins… I am! Annie at McGuffy’s Reader and Ellen at 15andmeowing host this fun Friday question and answer and I really enjoy it. If you would like to join in and/or read the other Fill-in posts just click on the badge above. So here I go… but not without a picture and it does relate to my answer to one of the questions!

This picture was clicked at the South Jetty in Venice, Florida… our home away from home. The South Jetty is not our home, but Venice… don’t want to get you all befuddled here. The jetty is one of my favorite spots to relax and enjoy the water, birds, watch the people that fish and people taking their boats out of the marina. And then… wait for it… they have the best hot dogs at South Jetty!

Okay, really… here I go!

  1. When I am nervous, I worry. When I worry I get more nervous. It is crazy making behavior and I am always working on trying to change which gives me something to do to forget about being nervous. Having a constructive task to break the cycle helps. So does being near water where there are birds, flowers, trees, and shells… and hot dogs. South Jetty!
  2. When I am angry, I usually shut down… or yell. I am angry about something traumatic that happened to our family last week but my being angry will not change a thing so I need to let it go.
  3. Today, I know for sure that life is short. Every moment of every day needs my total positive attention. I feel the need to tell the people in my life more than ever how important they are… tell them how much I love them. Thank them for being in my life and making my life so much better.
  4. For St. Patrick’s Day, I usually don’t do much if anything at all. We used to make a pot of kielbasa, potatoes, and cabbage but now St. Pat’s is just another day for us. I think the only holidays or special event days we celebrate are Thanksgiving and Christmas. The last three or five years, I celebrate the tiny moments in life that make me happy, make me smile. It really is all about the little things. As I type this I think we will be celebrating St. Pat’s with new friends that we have met and you know there will be FOOD… maybe a Grouper sandwich and it will be at a restaurant on the water! Does it get much better than that? Friends, FOOD, water… and a view!

That is it for this Friday. I might, might work on keeping my Fill-ins shorter but it seems lately I have so much to say.

Thank you to Annie and Ellen for the Friday Fill-ins… always!

Sparks Are Flying This Monday!

“Every time I stand before a beautiful beach, its waves seem to whisper to me: If you choose the simple things and find joy in nature’s simple treasures, life and living need not be so hard.” Psyche Roxas-Mendoza

I find no inclination to procrastinate when it comes to finding joy in nature’s simple treasures. There is a bounty of tiny miracles on Venice’s beach in Florida and CH and I smile at each one. It is as though we are little kids again driving our parents crazy with “Look, Mom!”, “Look at this, Dad!”… the memories are extra sweet there, too. A big thank you to CH’s Mom, known as The Mama to us, and his Dad (who sees us, I am sure) for introducing us to the quaint and endearing personality of Venice. Both our hearts, minds, and emotions find a peace like no other in this city on Florida’s Gulf Coast. And then there’s always those Grouper sandwiches at Turtle’s Restaurant!

Joining Annie at McGuffy’s Reader for the Sparks that start our Monday and week with a bright light to carry us through. I love this concept that Annie brings to us and hope you will join Sparks. Just click on the Sparks badge to see other Sparks that are flying!

Friendly Fill-ins ~ Week 90

It’s Friday… time for Friendly Fill-ins hosted by Annie at McGuffy’s Reader and Ellen at 15andmeowing. Click the badge above to visit other Fill-in posts… go on and click, you will be glad you did. It’s fun to read the other Fill-ins… it will make you smile.

  1. The flu shot most likely worked for me this year, thankfully. I would have missed this beautiful evening.
  2. I think everyone should take time and do something that makes them especially happy daily.
  3. I (almost always) say my rosary at night, because it connects me to my Mom. The nuns would be so proud. They thought I was a lost cause.
  4. I almost (never) get stuff done on time because I am a PROcrastinator. It gives me a cranky that I have PROcrastination but it’s been with me a long time. So, I go with it.

Welcome to WordPress, Annie!

Friendly Fill-ins!

It’s Friday and that means Friendly Fill-in time. You can find the Fill-ins at McGuffy’s Reader and 15andmeowing. Click on the badge above to link up and/or see other Fill-ins!

Here are my “filled in” Fill-ins!

  1. I wish wooden barns would come back in style.
  2. I always have my “cheaters” and chapstick in my purse (or wallet for men).
  3. I think that I find true peace near water… the ocean, lakes, farm ponds, rivers, streams, fountains, etc.
  4. Someone that answers a text or phone call and proceeds  to carry on a conversation while I am sitting there right in front of them is a pet peeve of mine. You have me right there to talk to. I am there for you… if it isn’t an emergency tell the other person you will get back to them.

Random 5 Friday

DSC_2616 - CopyWe have a new visitor to The Tiny Ten! He has been here about two weeks. I have not been able to get a decent picture of him… this is as good as I could do. He is camera shy. He has the sweetest little bird speak, I love hearing him talk, talk, talk in the morning… drink-your-tea! He is right outside our family room window in the bush which he has claimed as his own. He has a tiny fierce and protects his rights to that bush.

I am totally amazed by a modification to my clothing choice in my life. I have fallen out of love with jeans… people who know me know I love my jeans. My new fascination with comfortable clothing that makes me HAPPY is clothing from ATHLETA. I can’t stay away from their online site. It is the long and capri bottoms, the Asana tees, and the hoodies that make me excited about getting dressed in the morning again and has me doing my heart healthy walks around The Tiny Ten.

I can’t get anything done because I am watching Shelly’s Tinykittens. Her new fosters are The Sesame Street Kittens and she has a Livestream 24/7 cam. Five little kittens thrown in a trash can. Found by Handyman Joel when he heard little mews. My anger can’t be contained. Now they have a bright and happy future ahead of them with the promise of homes where they will be loved and respected. As I get ready to hit publish the kittens have taken down the cam! Have to wait till Shelly wakes up and gets cam back in position. These kittens are little scamps and love taking down the camera.

DSC_2571 - CopyI might be missing Florida.

I haven’t had wine for over a week. Wine Time today on The Porch… four ohhhh clock! I think bruschetta will be making an appearance. Hot diggity!

I am joining Nancy at A Rural Journal for Random 5 Friday. Welcome back Nancy and thank you for R5F!

Good Fences #45

DSC_2503 - Copy
Love this small beach in Venice, Florida… a hidden gem. Private covered areas each with a picnic table and little deck and this boardwalk on a primitive stretch of beach leading out to the Gulf of Mexico. We just found this area after going to Venice since 1995. Such a nice surprise! I saw the boardwalk fence and immediately thought of you Tex and Good Fences! It is called Service Club Park but I call it an oasis. Lovely it was there. And quiet. We took Tavern Ham sandwiches, redskin potato salad, a bottle of Missouri sweet wine (shhh, quiet about the wine) and a slice of key lime pie and enjoyed a wonderful lunch. You didn’t think I was going to leave FOOD out of this post?

Joining Tex at Good Fences this Thursday!

Share Your World – 2015 Week #4

IMG_0257
It’s time to join Cee at Share Your World. This big old grouper sandwich is from Turtles on Little Sarasota Bay, Siesta Key, Florida and this sandwich is what I was looking forward to for LUNCH the next week in my last SYW post but I couldn’t say where then! So it is a little part of my answer in Cee’s bonus questions at the end of the post. Have I befuddle-muddled you yet? On to Cee’s questions for this week. Join Cee’s Share Your World with a post of your own and link back to her or if you feel all up and HAPPY, play in the comments. I would love seeing your answers.

Where did you live at age five? Is it the same place or town you live now?
I lived in a small town just south of St. Louis, Missouri. It is not the same place I live now.

You are invited to a party that will be attended by many fascinating people you never met. Would you attend this party if you were to go by yourself?
Yes… probably. As long as I don’t have to wear a fru fru dress.

Did you grow up in a small or big town? Did you like it?
I grew up in a small town and I mean teeny! Yes I did like it… I loved growing up there. I had a blast and had some wonderful friends. Those were the days when my gal pals and I could walk home from school and stop at the dime store lunch counter and order a big old plate of crinkle cut french fries with a blob of ketchup for dipping the fries and a fountain Coke with a squirt of cherry syrup. And because that wasn’t enough food fun we would order a scoop of chocolate ice cream with gooey marshmallow on top in a chilly cold metal serving dish. AND we didn’t give a hoot about the calories! Dang, it is always about FOOD for me.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I don’t remember thinking about that. All I wanted to do was ride horses.  For a brief time in grade school I wanted to be a nun… dying here, dying. You went to Catholic school back in the old days, they worked very hard at  trying to recruit you to join the sisterhood of nuns. I still didn’t know what I wanted to be in college and now at 63 I just want to be happy and healthy.

Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? I am grateful for the trip to Venice, Florida and the grouper sandwich for lunch. I am looking forward to ordering a pair of BOOTS in the week coming up… I see a BOOT post in my future!
