Sparks Are Flying This Monday!

“Every time I stand before a beautiful beach, its waves seem to whisper to me: If you choose the simple things and find joy in nature’s simple treasures, life and living need not be so hard.” Psyche Roxas-Mendoza

I find no inclination to procrastinate when it comes to finding joy in nature’s simple treasures. There is a bounty of tiny miracles on Venice’s beach in Florida and CH and I smile at each one. It is as though we are little kids again driving our parents crazy with “Look, Mom!”, “Look at this, Dad!”… the memories are extra sweet there, too. A big thank you to CH’s Mom, known as The Mama to us, and his Dad (who sees us, I am sure) for introducing us to the quaint and endearing personality of Venice. Both our hearts, minds, and emotions find a peace like no other in this city on Florida’s Gulf Coast. And then there’s always those Grouper sandwiches at Turtle’s Restaurant!

Joining Annie at McGuffy’s Reader for the Sparks that start our Monday and week with a bright light to carry us through. I love this concept that Annie brings to us and hope you will join Sparks. Just click on the Sparks badge to see other Sparks that are flying!

  1. That’s a beautiful quotation. The only bad thing about a beach is that you can’t drink the water. (I know, I’ve tried!) I’m glad you don’t procrastinate when it comes to enjoying the pleasures that nature provides! πŸ˜€

        1. Every once in awhile I get in a sleep pattern where I can’t sleep. I wake up at midnight and I just can’t sleep. Rather than fight it I just read a book or read blogs. My usual time to be up is around 5. I am surprised by how many other people are up and hanging out on the streets of blogville!

    1. Cupcake would you want your feets in the sand? I am not a fan of sand between my toes! Beach naps would be very nice… I know from experience. But it can’t be too hot and you need a nice breeze.

  2. Love the quote…….and I join you in thinking that the beach is a wonderful place to enjoy “simple” – just us, the sand, the sound of the waves, the sun (or moon) and lots of peace…..it was my favorite thing about living in Florida. Wish I’d had a grouper sandwich to keep me company! I do love simple – the challenge is keeping things that way in what can be a truly complicated world.

    Love and Hugs, Pam

    1. Maybe when you go visiting the family and friends you know in Florida-da-dee you can give Grouper a try. All Grouper is not created equal. I have only found a few places that do Grouper the way I like it. I had Grouper at one of our fav eat out places and if that had been the first time I had Grouper I would not have ordered it again. And if it is a sammich, it has to have a buttered toasted bun with awesome tartar sauce! So true about keeping it simple AND joyful in complicated situations. Hugs to you!

  3. I think when we stop seeing God’s wonders all around us like a child then life ceases to be fun. I think it’s grand that you have found beautiful spots along the Gulf coast that gives you such awe-struck sense. I get these feelings every time we go to the mountains. Thanks for making me smile this morning. Have a sparkletastic week! πŸ˜‰

I love walking on the beach and I’m always looking for sea glass or shells.

    1. Sea glass is fun… so beautiful in its simplicity. Venice has tons of shark’s teeth… their claim to fame. I feel like these quotes make me get so serious… I need to let my funny loose! Hugs back at you, Cecilia!

  5. It’s been many years since I have been to Florida but hope to remedy that soon. We were planning on going in May but with the arrival of our new grandbabies sometime that month I think it will be some other time that we visit. Your post makes me long all the more for the trip πŸ™‚

    1. The twins! Yes, I would not be leaving… πŸ™‚ So happy for you! For me it starts to get warm and humid in May in Florida. I would hide inside the same as I do here when the heat and humidity start showing up.

  6. Awww… Such a sweet post. I absolutely love the ocean, and regret living in a landlocked state. Oh, and grouper sandwiches. Yum. We got into some good ones visiting Tampa for the Big Cat Rescue and must have gone to that bar and grill three times in a week.

    1. I can’t resist Grouper when we are in Florida! Big Cat Rescue… we have never visited there. That is going to have to change. Seems we are always doing airport things in Tampa and nothing else. I have the husband, CH, checking it out now. You gave me a heads up on the Tao of Pooh and now Big Cat Rescue… thanks!

  7. Great spark! It is nice to have such a special place that makes you feel young. I just learned what a grouper was, I didn’t know it was a fish, I thought it would be a sandwich big enough for a group πŸ™‚ I would pass on the sandwich, but a lot of other things on the menu looked good to me.XO

    1. Grouper are pretty ugly fish… Fish only a Mother Grouper could love! I like all the food I have had there but I really think it is the outside dining on the water that makes it so special. They have awesome key lime pie… πŸ™‚

    1. It feels different now than it did when I was younger. I love those memories when I wasn’t worried about a thing and we dove right in the surf. Now I am content to walk barefoot and look for shells and shark’s teeth and wear a big floppy hat like those old ladies… πŸ˜‰

  8. After living in London for 18 years and nowhere near the sea, I love that I can look out my bedroom window and see it and at night I can sometimes hear the waves on the sand. It really helps me to restore my soul. Great spark.

    1. It sounds lovely! How beautiful to hear the waves at night in your home. I can see where it would restore your soul. I probably wouldn’t sleep all night because I would want to stay awake and listen!

    1. Hugs back at you, Annie. I am glad to be doing Sparks. The thanks really go to you because I find it comfortable and fun doing the Fill-ins and Sparks. I might not continue to be consistent but I am going to try. Sometimes other “stuff” gets in the way. I do really love this quote and can’t believe I found it.

    1. Well. I don’t know how long I am back. I seem to get the itch to post and find something like Annie’s Sparks and Fill-ins that make me want to post and then I get overwhelmed and take a break… πŸ™‚ Good to see you here Cheryl! Thanks for stopping by. I have been reading you! I know how you love simple and nature’s treasures. Your blog is looking beautiful!
