Friendly Fill-ins Week 47

It’s a Friendly Fill-in kind of day. Click the badge above to go to the Fill-in prompts and to visit other Fill-in posts! Thank you to McGuffy’s Reader and 15andmeowing for hosting this fun Friendly Fill-in on Fridays.

  1. The first thing I think about in the morning is checking on TinyKittens. TK is a cat and kitten rescue in Fort Langley, BC. They live stream all things kittens and cats 24/7. Currently Evolene and Corsica are on the stream. Two Mom cats that were feral and were trapped and brought in to have their kittens in a safe and caring environment. Great homes will be found for the kittens and Moms after they are spayed and neutered. Both Moms are ready to give birth any day.
  2. The last thing I think about before sleep is why can’t I get to sleep!
  3. I am looking forward to all the Oaks getting themselves dressed for summer. I am also looking forward to Mr. and Mrs. Tanager’s return to the Tiny Ten. It is usually mid April when we hear their beak speak.
  4. I am so pleased that it has rained and rained and rained some more. I wasn’t happy with the scary storms Wednesday night though. Big things were flying around in the night. I think we are now out of drought!

  1. I totally agree for #2… it’s a miracle… and it drives me crazy…. while I try to find sleep in I ponder about my own summer outfit (the trees always know what they want lol)….and because good ideas should be shared I wake up Mark to tell him about my super ideas….his enthusiasm is more moderate ;o)))

    1. So funny… I am always waking up CH with a super idea or question that just can’t wait… his enthusiasm is less than moderate. Nobody messes with CH’s sleep. You would think he was still having to get up and go to work in the morning!

        1. LOL! CH knows my craziness and quirky ways but the early morning questions which are usually as important as your collie question… very important! are usually met with a big sigh. And if my waking him up to go look at something I am worried about… well, it isn’t pretty!

  2. I really need to do this one again. I have been so out of it ! Loved your answers and I agree that I am excited to see the trees get their leaves. If only they could do it without all of the pollen. Great to “see” you again!

  3. Oh what a beautiful photo CH took of that tanager – won’t be long until you hear them again I’m sure……..we’ve been in a drought and today I think we’re catching up QUICKLY – we have some pretty heavy showers already this morning but more to come all day. OK with me – it’s housecleaning day so I’d be upset if I was missing a SUNNY day! Wonderful fill-ins and you’ve reminded me to check on TinyKittens again – I was SOOOOO hooked on that a couple of years ago!

  5. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, I always enjoy your answers. That sounds like fun being able to watch the mamas, better than the reality tv shows. That is a beautiful Tanager, we don’t get those around here. Have a great weekend!

  6. We got your storm last night. I asked my husband (who was trying to sleep) if he saw the flash and what was it. That’s when the thunder came through. The weather conditions weren’t right for a thunder storm but weather is wonky these days. Please send us some warm weather (and sleeping tips for my husband that doesn’t require trading out his wife).

    1. Kate, see Katty’s comment at the top about Mark… sleeping husbands, and wives asking questions at two in the morning. Response rates were low. I am without sleeping tips but I generally wind up on the couch. It can’t be our storm that visited you last night because it is still threatening us here! That catinfo site is awesome… I was totally caught up in her litter pan obsession and become litter pan and litter obsessed! I would never make cat food… we would never get out of the house and just ick to the making of cat food and dishing it up!

  7. We LOVE that tanager guy! So handsome, all dressed up in red feathers. We like how you think right before you go to sleep. That is funny and similar to Mom in some ways. She usually thinks, “I feel great. I am wide awake. I will watch ALL my shows….” And then it’s morning! And she thinks, “Thank goodness for the DVR.”

    Love and licks,

    1. Mr. Tanager has a very outgoing personality, too. He follows CH all over the Tiny Ten and talks to him while he works… I am serious! My problem with sleeping is that I fall asleep on the couch around 8 and then wake up around 10 and then, HELLO, I am up.

  9. Hi Pix! Oh gosh, I so relate to number two! But, recently I’ve discovered something that’s helped me stay asleep longer. I purchased an aromatherapy diffuser. About an hour before bedtime, I fill the reservoir with water, add five drops of lavender oil and turn it on. I keep the bedroom doors shut and when it’s time to go to bed, the room smells wonderful. Also, I sprinkle a few drops of the oil on my pillowcase. I’ve been sleeping better than I have in years.
What a great picture! Was that taken by Mr. Pix?

    1. Hi Jill! I have thought about an aromatherapy diffuser but just haven’t acted on it. I love fragrance as long as it is subtle. My sense of smell and how it makes me feel is big!
I am enjoying your book so much. I thought I would have time to sit down and get it read but I am glad I didn’t because it is one of those books that you do not want it to end. I am where Taylor shows up at the diner… πŸ™‚ Yes, Mr. Pix did take that picture and I did some tweaking on Pixlr! Thanks for stopping by, Jill!

      1. I hope you give the diffuser a try. I’ve been using it next to my computer when I write on the weekends. Apparently the lemongrass and peppermint combo is good for creativity. Honestly though, the lavender at night has really helped to relax me. I’m so happy to hear your enjoying SCR, Pix. I truly appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me. Mr. Pix captured a great shot! Enjoy your weekend. xo

Not being able to sleep and having my mind in overdrive is crazy.

I am glad that you got the rain you needed and are likely out of your drought. It is weird here in this part of Texas. It can rain for a month, buckets every day, and still they say we’re in a drought. This town nearly floated away the first Thanksgiving we lived here and they were hollering about a drought. We, who had moved here from South Carolina, were totally confused to hear that. πŸ™‚
    Have a blessed weekend!

    1. Drought is a mysterious thing. We have gotten a lot of rain but just found out we are not out of drought. That is because the soil was so dry and compacted that it did not absorb the moisture from the rain… bad for the farmers trying to get their crops in. Mr. Tanager IS a beautiful bird, I agree πŸ™‚

      1. I hope that a good soaking rain will come your way so that the ground can be soft for the farmers again.

I remember one year in South Carolina it got so bad that the ground was cracking open something fierce. My husband worked in a cemetery at that time and it was very scary being able to see down into the graves!

        Have a blessed Sunday. πŸ™‚

I have insomnia often. I think part of it is Bill’s crazy schedule; we are always in contact by phone and text. We check on each other all hours of the day and night. It is what it is. *sigh* We have had a lot of rain, too! Flooding occurred in some areas. Spring rains. It brought the pelicans back, too. I look forward to the Tanager! Gorgeous. Thanks, my friend. The red bird in the picture is a Summer Tanager and we were concerned that he had not returned but since this post two couples have returned and so have our Baltimore Orioles! We are so excited! I so enjoyed my visit to your blog and have been back several times. I have added you to my Feedly Reader. Oh, and I always have what has been on my mind all day before I sleep. 18. Thanks for stopping by this week!! This rain is starting to get to me too. I know we do need it but does it all have to come in one week? The family canceled the trip down. They want to wait for warmer weather and Dad just isn’t up for a trip right now. We may go see them instead. Depends on how the back is feeling. This rain has canceled out any house cleaning motivation I had so it’s time to cuddle up with a good book and read for a bit.

  22. Good morning! This is the earliest I have ever had a coneflower bloom!!! Must be because of the early Spring we had. I was so happy to be able to film the butterfly emerging β™₯ It’s been a tough year so far with the EO virus (actually a parasite ) and the two that did make it tested positive for it so I can’t release them. As long as they are eating the sugar water I will keep them in the cage otherwise I will have to destroy them and that would be hard for me to do 😦 it has been a real learning experience for sure this year !

  23. Good Morning Pix! It’s been a busy butterfly year for sure here. I have two more chrysalis that should open today or tomorrow and I thought I was done. But as I was planting more flowers last night I looked up at the recovering milkweed and noticed more caterpillars! So I have 9 more caterpillars inside again and probably more to come if I go out and really check over the milkweed. Plus the ones we released are kind of hanging around instead of taking off for other parts of the world. So well see if we get more from them. It’s definitely a different butterfly season for me!

Fingers crossed! I would hang around your place too… lots of flowers and blooms there I am sure. I think those butterflies have a connection to you… πŸ™‚ Our butterflies have decreased lately, but we don’t have a lot blooming. One coneflower and we have lilies blooming now. Not much else. Our columbine died off. We still see a butterfly flit here and there. I have some Russian Sage and our butterfly bush is slowly coming back. Enjoy your day. We almost came your way yesterday but then they started talking storms… we stayed put and it didn’t even rain!

Thanks for stopping by!

  29. Yes the beetles have thinned out but still very active. I will use some kind of spray on the apple tree but every thing else will get some kind of organic treatment. There is always some kind of critter lurking around ready to eat everything up. We had rain this morning which I wasn’t expecting at all. Gonna be a hot one today. We had a very senior Golden Retriever show up the night of July 4th when all of the fireworks were going off. She was very scared so we put her in an outdoor kennel area on our deck with a dog house in it. Finally someone used that expensive dog house I bought πŸ™‚ Any how she has been here since. I’ve taken her to be checked for a chip and she doesn’t have one. Moved her to the basement yesterday afternoon to get her out of the heat and she loves it there. Gave her a nice bed but she prefers the cold concrete . Have listed her with every vet in the area and on every lost dog group. No responses at all. I’m thinking we may have gained another dog. :-/ At least she is house broke and very sweet.

We now have 6 furry critters and a lizard.. just what I needed was another animal to take care of πŸ™‚ Soon the county will be demanding that I get a rescue licence or something or other. She is the sweetest thing ever though so I couldn’t see sending her to a shelter where she would probably never get adopted because of her age. Her trip to the Vet was all positive though . No parasites or disease . Just an eye infection and old age, So we got her all of her shots while she was there.

Of course with my eye sight these days they are relatively safe from the shooting. Joe Pye means August is here usually and that is when the Monarchs start their trek South for the winter. 1. Sorry I’m so late getting back to you. My day decided to work outside building himself a ramp for his Hover-round … in the 98 Β° heat. He collapsed and passed out. Then refused to go to the hospital for 2 days. Once there his heart rate was down to 24 and wouldn’t respond to medications so they had to do emergency surgery and put in a pacemaker. Of course then complications set in and then his lungs filled with fluid. After a week of medications and treatments the finally sent him home on Friday… with oxygen and a walker and he’s fighting using both. Stubborn MAN!!! I’m home now trying to resurrect a garden that wasn’t watered in over a week and these rains just keep going around is 😦 We have sprinkles and that’s it.

They are saying that he will be on oxygen for life … he says no way. We’ll see what happens as he gets better. The weeds will be slow to disappear … I soaked the ground the night before so the front bed was an easy pull. I’ll soak another one tonight to do tomorrow.
