Random Five Friday

DSC_1917 - Copy

How does 40 years go flying by so fast? I just know that I sure do like the guy that has spent those 40 years with me. Of course I love him too but sometimes for the long haul(romantic is what I am) “like” is more important.

Family. Where would we be without them?

I am such a ditz! When I can’t sleep and I browse blogs, if it’s 3:30 or 4am I won’t leave a comment because I am afraid of bothering who I am visiting.. 😯

Going to get myself back to doing embroidery thanks to Margie at Latebloomerbuds blog! Hugs and thanks Margie.. ♥

We went to the Lake of the Ozarks yesterday. It was home for us before we moved to The Tiny Ten. They now have my favorite FOOD store there that is a St. Louis, MO (our home home) tradition.. Dierbergs! I came home clutching a bag with a small container of their Red Skin Potato Salad. Red skin potato salad is right up there with homemade noodles and chicken for me… makes my taste buds want to shake it up baby, twist and shout! They also have self checkout. Self checkout in a FOOD store makes my self all giddy. But yesterday the Dierbergs lady kept taking everything out of my hand and running it over the scanner. I wanted to tell her to buzz off, MY self is perfectly capable of using the self checkout. Generally and predictably if I need a self checkout lady’s help she is as scarce as being considerate while talking on a cell phone. Oh and could be I will be having that red skin potato salad for breakfast this morning.

Well ok then! I am joining sweet Nancy with her delightful sense of funny at her blog A Rural Journal for Random Five Friday where you share FIVE random facts about your SELF, your day, your pets, your kids,  YOUR HUSBAND, whatever!

  1. FORTY years? Impossible! You and CH must have been two years old when you got hitched! Well congratulations my dear…..and I’m a MAJOR lover of red skin potato salad too – when I make potato salad (which is frequently) it’s always with those dear little tiny red skins! Enjoy some for breakfast – you have my permission…..tee hee

  2. Happy anniversary, Wednesday was my 4th anniversary. Other person called me and asked:
    -What day is today?
    Wednesday, I said.
-Good, happy Wednesday then. He said
Then at midnight I received a message from my mother saying “Wow, you’ve been married for 4 years already, congrats.!”
I called the other person, and sorta faked it, he said “You just talked to your mom right? She told you what day was today.”
I had to accept defeat and get ready for the silence treatment this weekend.
Last year I remembered it, but on the 7th, a big mess. And then I forgot it was the 15th on the 15th.
At 3-4am your time, here in Europe we are wide awake.

    1. Well Happy Happy Anniversary Leo to you and Yours! Hope you don’t get the silent treatment. You can’t use senior moments as an excuse either like I can. Did you see Stella’s post? Our anniversary was the 5th.. 🙂 or 4th… dang the first week of January.. 😀

    1. Thanks for the Anniversary wish Dianna! I am always waking up and wanting to comment at odd hours. My sis-in-law leaves her phone on all night and it would be pinging away. I assume other people leave their cells on too.. 😀 I might say Hey in the middle of the night at your place! Enjoy your weekend, I forget you don’t blog on weekends.

  4. Forty years! Go you. And CH!

I expect that some folks get a techie tweet next to their ear in the middle of the night anytime someone says “boo!” on their blog. Not me, baby. My computer goes to sleep when I do.

    Enjoy that tater salad!

I love this random 5 blog hop. In fact i think I’ll participate later today as there is very little to post about on the gardening front!
ps. I’m with you re: self checkouts! I LOVE those things, esp here where all the old people are terrified of them! hahahaha I get to use them with no competition! 🙂

      1. Do yourself a favor and by a small kit to get you back into it. Look on etsy or check out Joann Fabrics, Michaels… By having a small project with yarn or threads already sorted, a design printed on the fabric, and detailed instructions, you will fall back into it simply. It’s like riding a bike, it all comes back, you never forget. AND, when you sit stitching, you think of NOTHING else. A wonderful way to be quiet and focused. M

    1. Good Morning Carol! Thank you for the Happy.. 🙂 We were seriously considering moving to the 55 plus community of Heritage at Hawk Ridge and I was doing a happy dance over Dierbergs being close. But those plans fell through. I couldn’t leave the Tiny Ten yet.. 😀 Dierbergs deli is gourmet!

So, if it is a “self checkout” why does it need a lady????

    1. “So, if it is a “self checkout” why does it need a lady????”… Yeah! I’m with you! CH had his Cub Cadet hat on. I think she thought we were hoosiers in her fancy schmancy store. Or quite possibly thought we were like all the other old farts that live there and had no clue how to use a touch screen. I wanted to bop her on the head with the rotisserie chicken she grabbed out of CH’s hands! There will be wine at 4pm.. 🙂

  10. Look at all these people who love you and are wishing you a Happy Anniversary! Let me add my wishes here, too! I LOVE self check outs! Sometimes I am just on people overload and don’t really want to interact. Seriously. I know, I know—I really am a people person BUT there are times when I just don’t want to interact and the self check out is the answer. PLUS I can pack my groceries like I want them to be packed—not all squished and squashed. Report back on that red potato salad, okay?

    1. Thank you for your wishes Beth Ann! I understand, I think that people persons(?) can feel things very intensely and become overwhelmed. Yes to packing my cold stuff together so I can get it in the fridge all at one time, instead of finding a frozen Lean Cuisine in with the Scrubbing Bubs.. 😀 Red Skin Potato salad was awesome! I just had a couple of bites.

  11. you made me laugh about the potato salad for breakfast – and the ‘extra helpful’ checkout lady. HAPPY 40 YEARS!!!! and for goodness sake, leave messages as most folks put their phones on silent if they’re sleeping so they don’t ‘ping’ with emailed comments. silly woman! 🙂

    1. She was a little past ‘extra helpful’ bordering on obnoxious.. 😀 Thank you for the HAPPY! I am hoping I am going to be sleeping better and not carousing the blog streets late night early morning. Boy it sure is peaceful then though.. 🙂

    Keep warm!

    1. Hi Patti! We were down at the Lake, Dierbergs is in Osage Beach across from the Outlet Mall. We live just a few minutes west down 54 outside of Jeff. I take the Wardsville exit for almost all the running around I do. That or Southwest Blvd for Schnucks.. 🙂 It’s a cold one today! Brrrr.

  13. Congratulations!!! 40 Years is amazingly marvelous!!!

hey! I remember, not so long ago, listening to people brag about that specific Dierbergs about to open in the Ozarks. I KNOW it must be wonderful. next time, smile and tell the “ever-so-helpful” checkout lady you’d like to do it yourself . . . just for the fun of it . . .

    Happy Week to YOU!!!

    1. Hello Maggid! Thank you for the congrats on our 40th!

The Dierbergs at the Lake is nice but I love any Dierbergs in St. Lou better.. 🙂

I should of told “ever-so-helpful” lady yesterday that I knew my way around the self checkout lane. We only had four things, I thought she would quit after the first. She did let me handle my own credit card and checkout. It was funny but I wanted to hit her with the rotisserie chicken.. 🙂

Happy Week back at you! I hope you make it to The Gardens!!

  15. First of all, Happy Anniversary, Pix! It’ll be 43 years for us. “Like” is good, I know what you mean. BG is my best friend, besides being my husband. He’s not as pretty as he used to be, but then neither am I, but I still do like that boy!

You can comment any time you want at my blog. Heck, I’ll probably be up myself. I was up until probably 430 or so this morning. Sometimes I just can’t sleep so I am ‘cruising the blog streets’. LOL!

I’ll have to check out Dierbergs when I’m next at the Lake. I haven’t ever been in their store. Sounds like a grocery I’d like.

Happy Friday to you and CH…and stay warm! We had a mini snow storm here last night. Not too much snow, but that wind was something else there for a while!

    1. Good Afternoon Cheryl! Well if I would have known you were up we could have chatted! 43 for you soon. I am impressed by us four, what you think? ‘Like’ is very important, especially after retirement. Lots of time together, CH has been retired 6 years and at first it’s all good but I found I was needing me time as we got into the middle of that six years. It was an adjustment more than I thought it would be. Suddenly the house was not all mine to do what I wanted when I wanted… 🙂 Thank you for the Happy Anniversary wish.

The Dierbergs is nice at the Lake but my heart belongs to the one in Manchester, MO!

Happy Friday back at you, I hope you are enjoying your day with BG home. It seems like I have typed this before.. 😉

It’s (almost) too pretty to eat. I like self-checkout, too, as long as I don’t have too many items to fit on the bagging area.

Am wearing my photojourneying cap again, and I didn’t want to change it so here I am. Don’t know how I missed this earlier, but congratulations to you and your favourite guy! All the very best to you and lots of blessings for many, many, many, many, many (you get the idea) years of loving and liking each other!

  20. I can’t believe I missed your anniversary post, Pix!!! A belated happy 40th to you both 🙂 I had to laugh at the self checkout dilemma. We have them here in food stores and I almost never use them as I always do something that cocks up the works and sets alarms off! I think I have an aura or something!! xx
