A New Start

This little sunflower face was taken by Country Husband. I found it when I loaded pictures to the computer last night and fell in love with the sunny detail of it. It is SOOC, nothing done to it. Nada. This little guy and about 300 more of others like him were standing in our west pasture all straight, tall and proud. Way back in early Spring we decided to burn off some of our west pasture. Things got a little out of hand when the wind came up and we had to do the 911 call. It wasn’t all that out of hand but we were very happy to see the faces of the men that volunteer for our local fire department. I was just a bit worried about the neighbor’s horses. I knew the horses would be OK but I didn’t want the field to go up in flames. I had no idea CH threw out a bunch of sunflower seeds in that black, stinky charred field. And so a new start to the old blackened pasture! And a new start here at the blog too.

Computer was picked up Wednesday. Came home with a brand new hard drive and a zippier new feel. Two weeks it was gone. Who knew? So I am going to get back to posting and reading all those wonderful blogs out there and do some commenting now that I have my old new familiar laptop back. Now I just have to find a shot for the Weekly Photo Challenge. HOT!

  1. Two weeks is a long time to be without the laptop, glad to see you are back up. I’m imagining you and CH trying to put out the field fire. Oh My! That would have made a good picture for your photo challenge HOT!

    1. Yes Deb it would have made for a great photo challenge picture but I was too worried about CH having a heart attack running back and forth grabbing the buckets I was filling up, death grip on my cell and hoping the neighbor’s horses would head toward their house! It would have been some good pictures to look back on! It was HOT that day too!

    1. Awwww Katie thank you so much! I am happy my posts bring you joy. I always say I do them for myself but you know we always feel happy inside when we know that someone gets a kick out of them. Enjoy your Sunday Katie, it is going to be a hot one! I loved the email. You know me well!

    1. I was out of my mind Sam and had a terrible cranky going on the whole time. I don’t know how CH took it. He is a patient man. Yep if I hadn’t been filling buckets for CH and worrying about him running back and forth and a death grip on my cell and had a third arm I could have snapped some pictures. Believe me, it crossed my mind. Awful I know!!!!!

  2. Beauty out of the ashes! Thanks for sharing the story of how this sunny bloom came to be. Kudos to CH for choosing cheery sunflowers to pitch into that field — and for the great photo! I’m thankful the horses didn’t lose their pasture. I know you’re happy to have your laptop back! =)

    1. Hi Little Things! Yes! Beauty out of the ashes. Perfect isn’t it? Yes, it was very good thinking on his part to throw those little seeds out there. Those sunflowers are all over. I guess the birds helped to relocate some of them. There are three in the burn pile I just noticed early this morning and we can’t burn because they are so happy there. Thanks for coming by to visit Under the Oaks!

  3. Yea you’re back! The story of the sunflowers made me smile.

Two weeks without my computer would not be possible. They’d have to put me in a straight jacket (seriously). How times have changed… I’m glad your laptop is well and chugging along with renewed power!

    1. Hi Deanna! I am glad the sunflower story made you smile. I am also glad to be back with my puter. Two weeks was almost not possible. Ask CH about the consistent cranky I had going on. I think HE was ready to put me in a straight jacket and zip my lip! It’s not so much the computer, although I do use it to search for what I consider important stuff, but it was the people I missed. You know what I mean, I know šŸ˜‰

  4. Hurray! Laptop back, smelling and looking like brand new!! I am happy for you, and happy for us to have you back!! Welcome home, friend!

Scary situation with the fire getting out of control. I would have had a heart attack. If there is something I am deadly afraid of (besides high places) is fire. Glad that it wasn’t very serious.

    Loved the picture.

    1. Thank you so much Miriam! You is a sweetie! Yes the brush fire scared the you know what out of me, but I was so busy filling up buckets of water for CH from the well and worrying about HIM having a heart attack running back and forth AND you know how men are! He thought he could handle it and wouldn’t let me call 911. I was holding my cell so tight my fingers were locked around it. I finally just said the hell with it and called. I think, I know CH was relieved šŸ™‚ My mouth was so dry I could barely speak to the dispatcher. It was just a tad scary!

  5. Good to have you back!! Just this morning, hubs and I were just discussing *my* dream of having a field of sunflowers (which also includes moving the garden to another spot, and the bees, and well, you know.. nothing is simple when it involves my dreams). You have the awesomeness right there in your own backyard. Lucky you! Our neighbors burn their pastures, and a couple years ago things got out of hand fast. We were worried for our cattle, and also the other critters here of course. We were so thankful to see those first responders/fire dept too – a little too much excitement for my taste šŸ™‚ That doggone Missouri wind is so unpredictable.
    Stay cool, if possible!

    1. Good Sunday Morning Tammy! Hey! Nice to see you!!! Our sunflowers were about 300 in number but all didn’t pop. But it was still fun seeing their happy faces and sadly they didn’t last long. But we will try again next year. Yes, I know nothing is simple when it involves dreams at Flat Creek šŸ™‚ It is just like indoor decorating, you add one little pillow to the couch and all of a sudden you have to redo two or three rooms!

Tammy you and yours and the critters all try to stay cool too. It is going to be brutal. I don’t think we have had this kind of extended heat and humidity since ’05.

    1. Tex I also wanted to add that I hope you get a break in the heat you are having there and that a big fat rain filled cloud finds its’ way right over the top of the RunARound Ranch!

Also, CH did good. Both with the photo, and the field full of sunflowers. What a happy, cheerful sight that must be.

    1. Good Morning Janice! I am glad to be back. Ridiculous to be that attached to a computer. But you know, it isn’t really the computer. It is the people connected to the computer I missed. I will be by for a visit šŸ™‚ CH did do pretty good!!!! Yes he did.

    1. Thank you for stopping by! My husband is a sucker for Sunflowers too! And I don’t think I could ever adequately express how happy I am to have my laptop back. I was lost. Lost. Ridiculous, I know! I missed two weekly photo challenges and lots of good reads at blogs I enjoy.

    1. Thanks Theresa! CH did very nicely with that camera šŸ™‚ Thanks for the good luck wishes. So far so good. I know it is getting to be a worn out and tired old subject but stay cool. It is going to get uglier with the heat. I guess I will get some books read and have some computer time. Last night I went through some old old photos motivated by 2eOmca’s last post at Thoughts from Finchley. Gosh it was fun. Pictures of my Mom and Dad and family and friends I hadn’t seen for years. I scanned some and I think one or two will show up Under the Oaks. We have a day trip to do today, reason for trip isn’t all that fun but the drive will be beautiful! Enjoy your Monday Theresa!
