Bruschetta and Them Boots.

DSC_1192 - Copy (2)
I set up a nice little wine time with bruschetta and gave the whole happy afternoon event the color orange so I could do a color coordinated post about them boots waaaay back when Big Brown came bouncing down the road with them. Bruschetta fixings came from St. Louis, MO and my favorite food store Dierbergs. CH is so wanting to get busy with that bruschetta but I won’t let him touch nothin’ till I get a shot of them boots! See that smile.

The longer it takes me to get them boots and the bruschetta and the wine glasses just right CH starts to see this may take longer than he thought but dang he should know by now.

He begins to see the whole thing may be going to hell in a handbasket. Patience is short.

Patience is shot.

Patience is GONE. Went to the kitchen and made his own bruschetta. But look at them boots and that lovely wine and colorful plate!

Now that’s a picture!

I am linking up with Sunday Stills Signs of September/Fall and Nancy’s Your Sunday Best this last day of September. I hear Earth Wind and Fire’s September tune dancing in my mind. Twinkling my memories. I might have taken a few liberties with the lyrics. Maybe.. :)

We Got Rain! Cue Gene Kelly Singin’ In The Rain.

Yesterday thankfully Hurricane Issac got his rain-filled self up to Missouri and gently and consistently dropped a little over two inches of rain all day on the Tiny Ten. We hadn’t had rain since the first week of May. I have been sad. Sad for the farmers and people that raise livestock, sad for the wildlife and sad for us. I have been cranky. I have been hot. There were other issues too. I have been neglectful in commenting and blogging because I didn’t think I could keep my cranky and whining self from being a depressing pain in the butt. So, I stayed quiet. Yesterday I sat on the porch with CH and at 4:30 we had wine time and I smiled because I think we may have turned the corner on this drought and heat. Fingers crossed. The new Teva sandals that Big Brown brought right before wine time helped with the smile too. We watched Suzy and Mr. Suzy Brown Squirrel cavort in the rain Under the Oaks. Fall is on the way. I picked up my camera and clicked for the first time since May. Today is the first day of September, my birthday month. I don’t think I want to be quiet no more!

Barn Charm and a Day Trip

Photobucket
First barn I found on the back road to Fulton yesterday. Priority for yesterday~snap some barns! Then pick up The Mama(CH’s Mom) and go to Williamsburg to Marlene’s which is located right next door to Crane’s Country Store. Marlene’s for the best CHEESEBURGER in MissouREE and if you love Carhartt clothing, Crane’s little country store is one of the places to find it! A beautiful country sunny kinda day. We even had a little wine time before leaving The Mama’s. A sweet white from a winery in Liberty, MO. My country self had a happy Monday. Barn snaps, lunch, a little wine time and a beautiful ride home. Thank you Tricia! You have us out traveling the beautiful country of Missouri! Got to get going, Book Club meets this morning. Can’t wait to get home and visit some Charming Barns!

Under the Palms

I think many of you are going to recognize this wise wonderfully witty and kind good hearted lady. That is what she is to me. This is Nancy who writes Spirit Lights The Way and her sweet BFF Husband. Nancy, I hadn’t noticed before I clicked over to copy and paste your link that under the title of your blog in little small voice letters are the words “Be Here Now”. And “Be Here Now” is why I started following Nancy and reading her blog every day when I started my wordpress blog last summer. I had skidded into a rough patch in my little world and Nancy’s beautiful wise words sprinkled with a wonderful sense of funny were just what I needed then and continue to need now to better my life. And let me add here that I am so thankful for my other blog friends because they make my heart happy too, how lucky we all are to have each other. Anyhoo, I was one of those half empty glass kind of gals married to an always full glass kinda guy and I wanted to live the rest of my life as a full glass(no I’m not talking about wine now)kinda gal “being here now”. So as a result of a post of mine about heading to Florida this winter Nancy and I thought it would be fun to meet up. And I wanted to meet this lady! And so I did :)

Nancy and her BFF Husband drove from their home up the coast to Venice where we were staying in our favorite little Florida place Inn at the Beach and showed up early afternoon on a beautiful sunny kinda day that Florida likes to deliver with the Gulf a most amazing azure blue. And yes I know those two words ‘azure blue’ are used way too much to describe the Gulf waters of Florida, but the water really was that gorgeous.

CH and I were sitting up on our balcony at the patio table when I hear this voice that says “where is Pixie?” and then I see her and she is a little thing. Vertically challenged just like me and she is carrying a soft-sided cooler and smiling. We all hug and her sweet BFF Husband shows up a minute or so later and we all get ourselves introduced to each other and head up to the patio table with a beautiful view of Venice Beach and that beautiful azure blue water. Nancy zips open the cooler and begins to set out the best afternoon snack of sweet treats, trail mix and oranges. The stars of the snacks were these most delicious oatmeal whoopie pies and the world’s best chocolate chip cookies! We spent the afternoon chatting, laughing a whole lot, hoovering those whoopie pies and cookies and sipping some MissouREE sweet wine. I am smiling as I type this just remembering! We had the most bestest nicest time and CH and Nancy’s BFF Husband are very much alike and hit it off~something I always kind of worry about when you meet a new couple and the husbands just kind of get thrown together to fend for themselves. Our day ended with a short walk across the street to the beach and a beach stroll and then before we knew it we were giving them hugs and waving good-bye as they drove down Venice Avenue. Our little Florida place suddenly seemed very empty without them. So we walked to downtown Venice and ate-get ready! A CHEESEBURGER! I know! I know! Believe me, we got our share of seafood while we were there. I had plenty of sesame encrusted salmon and grilled grouper and CH had all the fried oysters and soft shell crab he could eat.

We truly enjoyed meeting Nancy and her Hubby. CH and I have always loved Florida and have tried to go every year since 1995 when CH’s Mom and Dad spent their winters there. Our hearts are there. Nancy and her Hubby convinced us even further that life is good in Florida. This picture was snapped at the jetty just a short walk from where we stayed. They have the best Florida style Coney Dogs at a little beach hut! And if you are lucky, you could easily catch a view of some dolphins doing what dolphins do in the water-living their life “in the NOW” frolicking in the azure blue ocean!

Tricia’s Barn Charm!

Photobucket
This was the first barn on a Sunday drive to Hermann, Missouri in search of barns and a glass of wine at Hermannhof Winery and CH gave the shout out. The teeny thing was sitting way back in the field all alone and I probably would have missed it. It sits on Highway 94 between Jefferson City and Mokane Missouri in the fertile Missouri River Bottom. The glass of wine in Hermann was delightful and the bratwurst was delicious. Oh, and there was some pretty dang good German Potato Salad too!

Weekly Photo Challenge:Celebration

DSC_0298 - Copy

The glass is a tiny sweet celebration! The wine is sweet too and from one of Missouri’s fine wineries. The glass is old. Almost my age, six oh. There were eight of them and they were my Mom’s favorite glasses. They have rainbows dancing all around in the glass. They have been with CH and me since my Mom died. They have been moved more times than I can count. Two were broken here and there. I have searched and searched for more like them. My Mom loved Christmas, and while I have no trouble remembering her, it’s just special to hold these glasses at Christmas and know that she enjoyed a sweet sip out of them too. A sweet celebration for her. She is laughing right now, I know. And I can hear her voice….”Merry Christmas Sweets! Love ya!”

*Apologies to my friends who are reading this a second time….

More Celebrations to see!

Computer Went To The BIG CITY

I am without my laptop. Bah. It went to the BIG CITY for a clean up and makeover Wednesday. Thankfully, it is in very good hands. All the blogs I visit to say “Hello” that are on my favorites list and my pictures tagged along with the computer so I can’t casually flit around and comment. Please excuse. Hopefully the computer will be home soon. Until then I am on CH’s computer and there are none of my favorites on HIS computer so I will make do with browsing where I can and limited commenting. Bah, again. I think this is the first or second post I have ever done without a picture. That’s just so wrong. A post without a picture. I must have a picture. A picture is worth a thousand words. –Attributed to several writers I discovered as I googled this wise wonderful adage.

Have a very nice July 4th Holiday everyone!

Yes, everyBODY! Yep, all you lucky peoples out there with their computers! I guess I will have to make do with wine time Under the Oaks in the afternoons with CH, ALL FOODS popular on the 4th of July holiday and reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog for my book club.

Hmm. I just might have a post with pictures! We celebrated The Mama’s (CH’s Mom) 82nd Birthday yesterday and I clicked a few pictures  :)
