Captures. And A Few Words.

Barn Charm

sunday007-Copycopy_zps6c971235
These little charmers are located at a winery here in Central Missouri near the capital city, Jefferson City. Sadly the winery has closed. I know local wine lovin’ peeps will know this shot is from Native Stone Winery. I have always loved these two barn like structures and I am not sure that any animals were ever kept in either of them. The house on this property that the tasting room and restaurant were located in was ordered from the Sears catalog. Sad, so sad it’s gone. Summit Lake Winery closed last week too. A most beautiful view of Highway 54 and the Capitol Building. But all is not lost, Summit Lake wines are available at Hart Creek Bistro in Hartsburg, Missouri.. :) It is a fun location and Hartsburg is the place for the annual Pumpkin Festival this month. And of course we can always do our wine sippin’ Under the Oaks dressed in their Fall finest here at the Tiny Ten and have our own little Octoberfest.

I just love those barns :) We don’t really have Pumpkin festivals here, they do a few things for the kids.. I need to get myself another chimena , so I can sit out under my one hanging basket ( I will pretend it’s an Oak tree ) with a glass or two of wine, looking up at the stars. LOL xx00x

Love the photo. I’m sad to hear about the winery closing. I do enjoy going to tastings, especially when the setting is sublime.

Thank you on the photo! Two wineries we loved gone now. They were great places to meet family and enjoy an afternoon outside. And of course, there was FOOD!

Two…that is a shame. It’s hard to go wrong with wine, family, and food. I hope there are others you can go to.

  8. It has been a looong time since I was anywhere near the capitol, so I need to take a trip there, soon. Too bad I won’t be able to see the Winery, tho. Great addition to Barn Charm & thank you for joining =) 2 years & still going strong =)

2 years! Congratulations!! It’s a great photo challenge, you have done wonderful with it and I enjoy it. CH and I were just talking about going on a short trip today to see if I could restock. At least it’s cooler now and I am motivated to click again.

  9. I imagine on a rainy day these could look quite sad, but the light is lovely in your photo and gives them a gentle air of dereliction.

    October 9, 2012 at 8:33 am

    • sweetdaysundertheoaks

Thank you Isobel! I love that, “a gentle air of dereliction.” That is why I love to read what you write. Your words make such lovely sentences! I love these old rural barns and sheds and one day they will be no more, all replaced with metal buiildings. Rural Missouri will look very different.

Ooh, I’ve come over all poetical :) .

  10. Let me guess, you are going to the pumpkin festival just to tease those of us who can’t go to a pumpkin festival not eat pumpkin or candy corn.
I’ll drink me some wine,m wine goes perfectly with envy.

    October 9, 2012 at 9:23 am

    • Not going to the pumpkin festival, it will be crazy makin’ there, cRaZY!! But I may wander to Hartsburg and take pictures of the pumpkins while eating BRACH’s candy corn and post the pumpkins for you.. :D You know, just so you can see how wonderfully festive they are. Drinking wine sounds like a perfectly perfect way to deal with envy. Drinking wine is a perfectly perfect way to deal with anything! Geesh we coulda sent you some candy corn, couldn’t we????

  11. I’ve missed barn charm! Love these 2 – they’re so weathered and full of character!

    October 9, 2012 at 9:25 am

    • sweetdaysundertheoaks

Thanks Happy! I missed it too. I got a little burned out and had to take a rest from barn hunting. Too hot this past summer.

      October 9, 2012 at 9:58 am

  12. Great little out barns! Would make a great painting too :0)

    October 9, 2012 at 9:30 am

    • sweetdaysundertheoaks

I am sure you could do a lovely painting of them.. :)

      October 9, 2012 at 9:59 am

  13. Love those little buildings. We used to stop at Native Stone on a regular basis on our way to visit our kids (they live along 179.) I was so sorry to see it close. Summit Lake closing was a shame, too. Hopefully someone will make something of that lovely building… maybe another winery even!

    October 9, 2012 at 9:56 am

    • sweetdaysundertheoaks

Hope springs eternal! The winery in Hartsburg, even when Summit Lakes owned it is fun during the week. We will probably stay away from the Pumpkin Festival, it will be wall to wall. We heard that Summit Lakes owner was leasing out the Hartsburg location. Have you tried Seven Springs down at The Lake. They have a wonderful white wine, Spring Fling I believe.. :)

      October 9, 2012 at 10:07 am

  14. How sad that the winery closed down. Now that, I can relate to. The pumpkin festival – not so much. We don’t have those here.

    October 9, 2012 at 10:12 am

    • sweetdaysundertheoaks

Fall festivals in the midwest are just wonderful excuses to eat FOOD! The Pumpkin Festival will have festive pumpkins but it will be all about the FOOD and wine and Oktoberfest beers.. :) It is sad about the wineries.. But we will just drive a little longer and the anticipation will be good!

      October 9, 2012 at 10:30 am

  15. I’d like to see this one in person…would love to know the stories it could tell.

    October 9, 2012 at 10:30 am

    • sweetdaysundertheoaks

It could tell some stories too Rose! Of that I am sure.. :)

  17. Love your shot of these rustic old charmers, Pix! Too sad about the winery closing. Isn’t that the one you posted pics from a while back? I think The Mama was in those shots. How is she, by the way?

Thanks for the well wishes, too. I wish I could say I was better, but I’m not. ‘Twas up all night coughing. Cruddy Stuff, be gone!!!

    October 9, 2012 at 1:05 pm

    • No that was Summit Lake. It closed too last week. This picture is from Native Stone, west of Jeff. The Mama is good, just back from two weeks out west, Las Vegas, New Mexico, Colorado.

Hope you are feeling better this morning. CH and I had that last year, gah. CH’s brother just got over it. I won’t tell you that he coughed for two months. Take care of yourself.
