Captures. And A Few Words.

Barn Charm and a Day Trip

Photobucket
First barn I found on the back road to Fulton yesterday. Priority for yesterday~snap some barns! Then pick up The Mama(CH’s Mom) and go to Williamsburg to Marlene’s which is located right next door to Crane’s Country Store. Marlene’s for the best CHEESEBURGER in MissouREE and if you love Carhartt clothing, Crane’s little country store is one of the places to find it! A beautiful country sunny kinda day. We even had a little wine time before leaving The Mama’s. A sweet white from a winery in Liberty, MO. My country self had a happy Monday. Barn snaps, lunch, a little wine time and a beautiful ride home. Thank you Tricia! You have us out traveling the beautiful country of Missouri! Got to get going, Book Club meets this morning. Can’t wait to get home and visit some Charming Barns!

    • It was a perfect day! A Happy Tuesday back at you :) Loved your red dairy barn!

  2. Pretty old barn! You had me look twice when I read Williamsburg – we, of course, have a Williamsburg here in Virginia – not far from where I live!

Sounds like a wonderful day for you.

    February 21, 2012 at 6:56 am

    • Good Morning Dianna! We have been to your Williamsburg when we lived in Virginia from 1989 to 1992. Hmmm, so you are close to Williamsburg :) We did have a very nice day. Enjoy your Tuesday!

  3. Hi Pix, you found a winner in that wonderful weathered red barn on your day trip to Fulton! I haven’t been to Crane’s, it looks interesting. My hubby has been wearing Carhart jeans for quite some time, he thinks they’re more comfy than Levis and I think they hold up longer.
    Have fun at book club!

    February 21, 2012 at 8:02 am

    • Carhartt are the only jeans CH will wear and they fit him the best! I am pretty sure you would enjoy Cranes and something to munch on at Marlene’s. Nothing healthy there though and not exactly a heart healthy place :) Book Club was very fine!

  13. Nandini

For me it looks like a photo from the very old times. Nicely edited. And a great photo too. :)

    February 21, 2012 at 10:34 am

    • Thank you so much Nandini! And thank you for your visit :) I think I am stuck on the very old time look, maybe time to try something new :)

      February 21, 2012 at 12:57 pm

  14. Awww, thank you to you, too… you’re too kind!
That IS an eye catching old barn! Love the faded red

Thanks for sharing w/ us at Barn Charm =)

    February 21, 2012 at 12:02 pm

    • It was the first barn on a barn hunt! You just never know what you are going to get. That is one of the reasons why Barn Charm is so much fun. So cool seeing what everybody else has come up with!

      February 21, 2012 at 1:20 pm

  15. We’ve eaten at Marlene’s. HmmmmMmmmm Good! Took some friends of ours from WI to Cranes a few years ago and they acted like they had died and gone to heaven. They are still talking about it :)

Another cool barn. Looks familiar ;)

    February 21, 2012 at 1:15 pm

    • Marlene’s is something good for sure! Crane’s is a cool place. Love the old store and the stove and all the people that buy sandwiches for a buck. Those old wood floors and the front door just make me happy! Deanna the barn is between Guthrie and Millersburg.

      February 21, 2012 at 1:27 pm

  16. Beautiful photo.

    Regards and best wishes

    February 21, 2012 at 2:18 pm

  17. Another great picture. This one is different. I havent decided yet how it makes me feel when I look at it. There is mystery in that one. Sounds like a good day was had all the way round.

    February 21, 2012 at 2:57 pm

    • I wasn’t sure about this picture at all Christina but I let it fly. It feels dark to me. Scary almost and not in a Halloween fun kind of way. And I am not feeling dark or unhappy, quite the opposite. I was almost tempted to change the picture but I thought it needed to stay for some reason. Probably because I spent too much time on it ;) We did have fun. Lots of laughing even BEFORE the wine.

      February 21, 2012 at 3:05 pm

      • I was getting that dark feeling too Pix but you should still share the picture. Its all about the balance ya know? Isnt it funny the feelings that a picture can inspire.

        February 21, 2012 at 7:03 pm

        • Yes! It is funny. Everybody sees differently! It still creeps me out this morning, I think I am going to post something else and move it on down the page :) If I don’t find myself procrastinating.

          February 22, 2012 at 6:45 am

  18. What a beautiful picture! I love the picture in your header too. My in-laws live in Southern MO and it is so pretty there! Found you through Barn Charm–it’s my first time linking up!

    February 21, 2012 at 3:06 pm

    • I just spent some time, lots of time at your blog and plan to visit more. The inspiration I got there. Of course it may cost me a few bucks but CH and I will be hitting some antique stores the rest of the week looking for a small desk for the bedroom to use as a nightstand! Thank you for the kind words on my barn picture. Glad you found Under the Oaks because it led me to your blog!

      February 22, 2012 at 4:34 am

  19. Not my favourite barn of the ones you have posted, but another lovely picture. Does it never rain where you live?

    February 21, 2012 at 3:06 pm

    • Isobel saying that it is a lovely picture is very kind of you. I understand how it would not be a favorite. It kind of creeps me out. It didn’t at first when I was editing it but somewhere after hitting the publish button and after I got home from Book Club it just hit me as being very dark. Scary. I think I need to do another post and move it on down the page! It does rain here, buckets of rain but this year we are way behind in our rainfall totals. It is very dry and was dry all last summer and Fall. Our west pasture caught fire!

      February 21, 2012 at 3:25 pm

  20. It’s a beautiful photo and very nice capture! I would love to put that in a frame and hang it on the wall :) Hope you enjoyed your trip! Have a great week ahead! :)
    Hugs,
    Gracie xx

    February 21, 2012 at 3:13 pm

  21. Just as beautiful as always;)

    February 21, 2012 at 3:26 pm

  22. I also did a double-take when I read “Williamsburg.” Nice barn you found. I may have to travel below the ‘greenline’ in VB to see if barns exist here. :)

    February 21, 2012 at 4:37 pm

    • I think there are a few Williamsburgs. I should google. That would be fun if you joined Barn Charm. I am going to try to get back on track and do Six Word Friday but I haven’t heard the word yet. Patti I love the new notifications thingie. Is it just me though, I have noticed that it loads 9 notifications and the bottom one is impossible to hit reply because it falls off my screen and then I have to reply via email…..I think a l just had a lightbulb moment. I am going to try to reduce my zoom percentage. Enjoy your Wedbesday! Hope your back is better.

      February 22, 2012 at 6:11 am

  23. great shot. guess when i am in those parts i need to see about those cheese burgers to see if they are the best. (:

    February 21, 2012 at 6:24 pm

    • Yes! If you make it here let me know and I will personally drive you to see if you think they are the best! I would be needing to make sure the quality was staying up to par :)

      February 22, 2012 at 6:26 am

  24. Beautiful photo . . . and sounds like a WONDERFUL day! I love visiting country stores. :D

    February 21, 2012 at 7:38 pm

    • Thanks Nancy! It was a great little day trip and the scenery was great but since we have been home I have been missing palm trees and all things Florida. I have an email I want to write and shoot to you but it has been crazy here and I haven’t had the time to put it together. It will be coming :)

      February 22, 2012 at 1:54 am

  25. This is a beautiful shot – looks like a postcard! I love your processing too.

    February 21, 2012 at 8:20 pm

    • Thank you Mari! I just left your blog. Still teary eyed with happy tears for you, your family and your Andy!

      February 22, 2012 at 6:42 am

  26. The colors of the photo look genuinely country.

    February 21, 2012 at 9:13 pm

    • Hello Sony! Yep, they are genuine country :) I could have snapped barns until the cows came home. Literally!

      February 22, 2012 at 1:59 am

  27. Love the twisted tree and big red barn Pix! I’m going to have to try some of that sweet white wine from Liberty, MO. We live pretty close to Liberty. In fact, we do our grocery shopping at the Liberty Walmart.
Glad you had a nice day!

    February 22, 2012 at 12:24 am

    • Hi Theresa! CH’s Mom was up that way on one of her trips that her bank offers for us old seniors. I guess the winery was included in the trip. I would like to see the winery myself, but not by riding around on a big old bus ;) If we were coming there I would shoot an email. Maybe could see you for a bit :)

      February 22, 2012 at 2:09 am

  28. Hello Pix!! What a wonderful photo….and a wonderful barn. I hope this one is being used…it’s so sad to see them sitting neglected. You live in such a beautiful State to go barn hunting in. One day hubby will get over to your corner of the world and get some wonderful photo’s of MissouREE ;) Maybe we’ll find that burger place and also check out the clothing store :) Hope your day is a good one!! XO :)

    February 22, 2012 at 12:32 pm

    • Good Afternoon Maura! I think this barn was definitely being used. You know I clicked back over to read your post again because I was telling CH about it and first time around I only saw the first barn with the stone foundation. When I scrolled or either it didn’t load right away I didn’t even SEE the outside of Mr. Cifarelli’s barn/home. The outside is very awesome and your shot got that wall that adjoins the stable. The dark textures on that wall are very beautiful. I can’t bellieve I missed. I must have just scrolled too fast beyond it to look at the inside. Yep! I want to live there but I don’t want to do any reno work :) I couldn’t believe all the work you did on your hardwoods. I wouldn’t have been able to move my arms for weeks it I had done that. You must be in shape woman! If you two make it over this way you better let us know!

      February 22, 2012 at 2:56 pm

  29. The barn is great, and all those places sound like great stops to me!

    February 22, 2012 at 12:47 pm

    • Thank you Keetha! You had a wonderful Barn Charm post with that cute red charmer and Sadie!

      February 22, 2012 at 3:08 pm

  30. Such a pretty scene on a winter’s day.

    February 22, 2012 at 1:36 pm

    • Thank you so much Kathy! I loved your Spring/Summer Barn Charm scene! Lovely! That cow managed to steal the whole show :)

      February 22, 2012 at 3:27 pm

  31. Elaine

    Beautiful work!

    February 23, 2012 at 1:58 am

    • Elaine, thank you so much for your good words and visiting Under the Oaks! Barn Charm has been so much fun :)

      February 23, 2012 at 9:32 am

  32. That’s a big old barn. Great barn charm. :)

    February 23, 2012 at 3:08 am

  33. I love your pictures of barns. The barns themselves are just beautiful, but the pictures look like paintings. So evocative of times long gone somehow. Maybe because we don’t have barns like that here!

I don’t know if this comment will post. I’ll try! WordPress usually spams my comments!.
    Writing from the Edge

    February 23, 2012 at 8:27 am

    • I did indeed find your first comment with very kind words about my barn snaps in spam and the second comment waiting for moderation because WP has moderation on first time commenters. I am so sorry you had to try three times. I appreciate the time you took to comment and I certainly want you to be able to say “Hello” and visit Under the Oaks without having to jump through any hoops! I clicked over to visit your blog and want to return and get cozy and read. I am just beginning to work with textures and sometimes those poor old barns seem happier, in my opinion with a little TLC in the form of textures to soften them up a bit and give them some detail. Thank you for keepin’ on when WordPress misbehaved! Thanks for visiting Under the Oaks and thank you for your good words.

      February 23, 2012 at 9:12 am

  34. Nice photo of an old barn. I adore your header too.

    February 24, 2012 at 3:53 pm

    • Thank you so much! I certainly enjoyed myself at your blog. Six Word Fridays is a lovely meme and I have met such nice people. Spring is coming but you are right, although I hadn’t thought about this way until I read your reply to someone on your blog, Winter has been one long November. So true!

      February 25, 2012 at 5:25 am

  35. Great Entry my friend as always :)

    February 26, 2012 at 4:54 am

  36. Sounds like a lovely day :) And I can’t get enough of your barn photos – they’re beautiful! We don’t have any barns over here.

    February 29, 2012 at 9:38 am

    • Thank you so much on the barn photos! I don’t know how much longer we will have good old wooden barns. The trend is toward metal buildings~cheaper to put up, less maintenance.

      February 29, 2012 at 1:23 pm

Just say "hey"! Say more if you want, that's good too :)
